Dancers Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui celebrate the joy and innocence of making up dances to popular music. Working closely with new music artists and musicians, live beatboxing and percussion, SAYs ambition is to recreate the exciting atmosphere found at music gigs and reach new audiences by setting contemporary dance to underground music. Created & performed by Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui. Co-produced by The Place. Co-commissioned by The Place and DanceEast.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Sarah & Yuki will be leading a dynamic contemporary dance workshop. Participants will be led through a warm up, short routines including floorwork, and will be taught parts of the show.

ABOUT SAY
SAY was born from Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui’s ambition to rediscover the creativity that can get lost through formal training and to challenge the elitism sometimes associated with contemporary dance. Collaborating with music artists, SAY have combined dynamic contemporary styles to create a slick and playful performance.
Sarah Golding
Sarah trained at Trinity Laban and received a BA and MA in dance performance (Transitions Dance Company). Once graduated she became a dancer with Lîla Dance in 2014 where she toured nationally and rurally. She has performed for theatre companies and choreographers including the Royal Court (The Internet Is Serious Business), Bang Bang Bang group, Darcy Wallace, Quang Kien Van, Cathy Waller, Adam Russell. She can be seen in music video’s; Hope Tala’s Cherries, Anteros Bonnie and Anushqa Something In Common. Sarah has most recently performed in the West End and with the world touring cast of STOMP.
Sarah's contemporary choreographic credits include Balletboyz (the intro.) which is currently featuring in their upcoming Deluxe tour; mapdance 21 (STATE), Blood and Belief (U.Mi-1 London Fashion week 21); TRANSIT-20 (Dance film dance film collaboration with South African dancers) and Trinity Laban (conversations with x).
Sarah was recently nominated for a British Black Theatre Award for her movement direction for the West End’s Cruise in May 21 (Duchess Theatre). Her theatre choreographic credits also include Little Women (Park Theatre), Candide (Mountview), Primetime (Royal Court). Sarah will be choreographing the upcoming workshop and production of the new adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde (produced by Lambert Jackson Productions).
Sarah regularly choreographs for various CAT programmes including DanceEast, TrinityLaban and The Place. She also teaches her dynamic and rhythmical class to professionals and companies including Stopgap, NDCWales, Lîla Dance and Balletboyz. She also teaches at various universities and colleges including London
Studio Centre, Laban, Belgrade Dance Institute and is a resident choreographer at Miskin Theatre.
Yukiko Masui
Yukiko started her dance training in hip-hop and ballroom latin in Tokyo. In 2008, she moved to London to study contemporary dance and joined Transitions Dance Company at Trinity Laban as a part of MA course. Since the graduation, she has been working internationally with companies and choreographers such as Agudo Dance, Art of Spectra (SE), Cathy Waller, Corey Baker, Norrdans (SE), Rhiannon Faith, Rosie Kay, Tamsin Fitzgerald (2Faced Dance), TRIBE and more.
As a rehearsal director , she has worked for Agudo Dance Company, reviving of A Thousand Shepherds in Cape Town with Cape Dance Company as well as Burgos University in Spain. She has also assisted Hakeem Onibudo from Impact Dance on Live Vive in Caracas with British Council and Sadler’s Wells in London.
Her choreographic credit includes Norrdans, The Place, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, London Studio Centre, Impact Dance & Ballet Boyz (R&D). Her own works were commissioned by and toured to The Place, DanceXchange, Riley Theatre, Norrlands Opera and beyond. She has also choreographed musicals and theatre productions such as A Little Night Music (Story House), Miss Julie (Southwark Playhouse), Guy the new musical (Bunker Theatre) and Urine Town (London College of Music)
She delivers professional dance classes based on hip-hop foundation and floorwork to institutions and companies such as Rambert, The Place, Birmingham Dance Network, London Studio Centre, StopGap, Norrdans, Ballet Boyz, Burgos Conservatoire and more.
Yukiko is a recipient of a Choreography award from DanceXchange. She is currently an associate artist at The Place and selected for the mentoring programme by Akram Khan Company supported by Sky Arts.
